Last year, Providence St. Peter Foundation awarded a $20,000 grant through the Psychiatry Fund to support the Mental Health Access Program (MHAP), making it possible for low-income individuals experiencing anxiety and depression in our community to access mental health care.

Providence Centralia was recognized as one of Americas top 620 hospitals that treat critically ill patients, and one of just six hospitals in Washington on the list.

Although it would be folly to predict what the court will conclude, policy experts, insurers, doctors and legislators are now seriously contemplating the repercussions of a complete change in course two years after the nation began to put the law into place.

| Posted By CHOICE on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 | The number of Washington residents with no health insurance rose by 180,000 from 2008 through 2010 and will reach 1 million by the end of the year, according to a new report from state Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler. About 14.5 percent of state residents now have no insurance, about half of those in the 18-34 age range. Meanwhile, uncompensated care by hospitals and health providers has reached about $1 billion a year losses ultimately passed along to those who do have insurance.

Here in Thurston County, these volunteers are a cornerstone to the health care safety net, donating their time and expertise to vital programs such as the Mental Health Access Program, and organizations that provide free health care services such as The Olympia Free Clinic and Olympia Union Gospel Mission. The Governors proposed budget eliminates this program, amounting to less than $300,000 in savingsbut are those savings worth the loss of over $82 million worth of health care services provided annually to some of Washingtons most vulnerable citizens?

Health Care News » State budget cuts lead to layoffs at Providence |
| Posted By CHOICE on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 | The parent group of Olympia's Providence St. Peter Hospital is set to cut 8 percent of its work force as part of an effort to close a $28 million gap in its 2011 budget, the chief executive of the medical network said this week in a memo to employees.
The budget gap is the result of cuts to Medicaid and other state-funded health care cuts, according to Providence Health & Services, Southwest Washington region.
