OLYMPIA – The State’s first open enrollment period for health insurance ended this week, on March 31st, after six months of sign-ups. With the close of open enrollment, CHOICE and other enrollment support organizations celebrate not only meeting, but exceeding their original target of enrolling 6,520 individuals into health insurance across a seven-county region. Statewide, nearly half a million individuals enrolled into health coverage through Washington Healthplanfinder, Washington State’s online enrollment tool.
Thurston County Project Access, a program to connect low-income, uninsured residents to specialty medical providers donating their services, is undergoing a transition. As of October 1st, 2013, Thurston County Project Access providers have served over 3,600 people in our community since the program began eight years ago. This achievement was made possible through the generosity of 486 providers, clinics and hospitals that have donated nearly $23 million in care to residents in our community since 2005.
