Special Enrollment is still available for those who have “qualifying life events.” What does that mean? A “qualifying life event” is a major event that changes your health coverage. If you have one of these changes, you should apply for special enrollment to get insurance. But make sure you do it within 60 days.
What is a “qualifying life event”? Here are some examples:
- getting married
- having a baby
- adopting a child
- placement of a child
- moving to a new area
- becoming a U.S. citizen
- getting out of jail
- losing your job
- getting divorced
- losing Medicaid eligibility
- losing CHIP eligibility
- losing COBRA coverage
- your health plan becoming decertified
